WEBER COUNTY

·    To support medical families.  The Alliance in our county helps provide games and activities for the Medical Society Summer Picnic.  We are able to help medical residents in our area by providing babysitting so that resident spouses can more easily participate in some of the Alliance activities.

·    To increase awareness of the physician’s role in the community.  During the month of March the Alliance co-sponsors Doctor's Day with the Medical Society.  The Alliance engages 2nd graders in the community to write stories and/or to draw pictures related to Doctor's and what they do.  Children are then chosen as winners and they get to represent all of the participants at the Medical Society dinner held in March.  The Alliance also sponsors a community program called "Our Friend the Hospital".  Children from local schools are able to come to the hospital and rotate through areas that teach them about Doctors and Hospitals.  Some of these areas include cardiology, surgery, lab, pediatrics and radiology.

·    To promote healthy lifestyles for all through education and support.  Through the Alliance Cooking School we are able to raise money that is then donated to the Ogden Rescue Mission, Midtown Clinic and also to a scholarship fund through Weber State University.  Our Hospitality luncheon benefits the Weber Foundation which supports children in Weber County with disabilities.  During our luncheon we assemble crafts to be sold at the Christmas Tree Jubilee.  The money raised goes directly to the Foundation.

·    To fight against social behaviors which threaten our health and safety.  The Alliance sponsors an anti-bullying program called Nellie No-No.  Members of the Alliance perform a play that encourages children in the Weber and Ogden School Districts not to be bullies.

·    To support legislation leading to improved and continued quality healthcare.  Our Alliance has three board members who are solely responsible for providing our members with information about medical legislation.  These members report back to the Alliance and make recommendations as to what members can do to help.  During each legislative session we take these recommendations and then lobby our representatives at the state capitol about these important medical issues.

·    To support the UMA, the AMA and the AMA Alliance, and our constituent alliances.  Each year our Alliance sends an AMA Foundation letter to its members requesting donations that are then given to medical schools of the members choice.  We support the UMA as we attend monthly Medical Society Board  meetings.  We strive to attend UMAA meetings and to help the AMA on a national level.
